The Right Swimwear Style for You

I am finally back. It took awhile, but honestly I was busy with many stuff in my life after I graduated from my degree. What matters most is I am back and with more post than before, at least regular ones. I shall kick out with something soft while I sort through some of my Outfit of the Day and Stuff I Bought post.

Summer is coming soon for most places and what’s the first thing that comes into mind? Beach, of course! Summer, sun and beach, it’s definitely important to remember to get the best swimwear shorts. I saw a few guides to getting the right one and this particular one interests me.

What Swimwear Style Is Right For You?

It’s separate into six categories: tall men (6′ or above), short men and then buff, thin or big build.

Tall & Buff

Are you 6′ or taller, with broad shoulders and chest, and do you like to workout with weights, then you fall into the tall & buff category meaning you can wear anything you like because chances are it will always look good on you. If you have a good tan, lighter colors like white or pastel tones look great, but bear in mind that white rarely stays like that for a long time. In case you like bolder patterns, think about a classic paisley, madras or gingham.

Tall & Thin

If you are 6′ or taller with a slender built, go for traditional board shorts. An 8″ inseam is enough for people around 6′, and taller men can increase it to 10″ as long as they end above the knee. While a fuller cut is good, avoid the baggy board shorts trend from the 1990′s. They have the unfortunate tendency to look too youthful or simply sloppy. If you are really tall, it will be difficult to find anything with a longer inseam. You definitely want to avoid vertical stripes, because these will give you the appearance of being taller and thinner than you already are. On the other hand, horizontal stripes may work for you. In any case, avoid skinny Speedo swim briefs because chances are it will make you look boyish.  In terms of color choice, your complexion should be a good guide: if you are pale, avoid extreme colors in terms of lightness and darkness, whereas men with a tan often look better with lighter or bright colors. A rich blue like in the picture (or green, red, etc. ) will work for anybody.

Big & Tall

As a big & tall man, you want to look advantageous and long, dark, solids board shorts will do just that for you. If your thighs are not too strong, try to avoid shorts that are too baggy. If you prefer patterns, go for a micro pattern or vertical stripes.  Avoid swim trunks, Speedo briefs and thong style swimwear.

Big & Tall swimsuits

Short & Buff

The best style for shorter, buff men will be a trunk or boxer style because the shorter inseam makes  you look taller. I’d recommend avoiding suits with an inseam longer than 6″. At any cost, avoid board shorts because they make you visually even shorter and often overhang the knee, while vertical stripes will help you look taller.

Short & Buff swim trunks

Short & Thin

If you are short and slender opt for trunks, or slim board shorts with a shorter inseam. Avoid bold and large patterns, as they will overpower your small stature. Choose microprints, or low contrast stripes instead.

Short & Thin swim trunks

Short & Big

In case you are shorter and bigger, consider a pair of high-cut briefs that would give the illusion of longer legs. Below you can see the original model in khaki which was designed for the  Underwater Demolition Team in the forties and they are still used by the Navy Seals today. At just $18, you get a classic swim trunk that won’t break the bank.  You want to opt for a looser fit without an elastic waistband, because it will make you look bigger. If the swimsuit cuts into your stomach, better go with the next larger size. Dark solids colors will always work and often have a slimming effect, but dark vertical stripes are also good as long as they are not too bold.

What Not to Wear

Regardless of your stature and build, if the goal is to look great at the beach, there are a few things to avoid that apply to everyone interested in a classic look. If possible, avoid large logo or brand symbols. I am sure you all have seen men in large Armani, Versace or Hugo Boss shorts or briefs but big branding tends to scream with a lack of self confidence, not to mention lack of personal style. So, don’t be a brand victim and choose a tasteful model that suits your physique and complexion rather than being the equivalent of an advertising billboard.

Topman “Spray On Jeans” Campaign

Skinny jeans has been around over the decades, from rockers such as The Rolling Stones  and Sid Vicious. In this few years, skinny jeans started to come back maybe three years back. However Topman boasts their Spray On Jeans in over thirty styles and rinses. For this year’s fall fashion, Topman has came out with this spray on jeans which to be honest, is pushing the boundaries of men fashion.

I was walking pass Topman this afternoon and saw the campaign for spray on jeans by the store and it actually fascinates me. Skinny jeans are getting skinnier and skinnier every year and right at the moment I saw this, I thought why not blog about it. These spray on jeans looked like tights and for a male, I swear wearing something so tight is not comfortable.

Let me show you what I saw first:

I will not lie, the models looked great! I don’t believe every guy can wear skinny jeans that are so tight. You have to have a slim legs and need to be tall. This type of fashion most probably can only been seen in the Europe. For myself, I think I can wear them, but I am thinking whether to get them though, because it is really a very tight fit and I must say, tight jeans are not comfortable. Well, I guess I have to try one on to determine. What do you guys think?

A little preview of what is the Topman Spray On Jeans campaign is all about. Give me your comment on what you think. Cheers!

Cable-Knit Sweatpants

Found this on a website and I must say they look super comfortable. Would you wear this?

LMF137211 BLUE Cable Knit Sweatpants Are Now a Thing. Youre Welcome.

From Lifetime Collective, this cost $149 USD. BLUNDETTO is what it is called. I must say it is a little bit expensive for a sweatpants. Most probably because I often only wear sweatpants to sleep at night as well.

Levi’s Jeans Guide

Levi’s is a brand I believe is known widely throughout the world. Jeans would be the first thing that came to mind when Levi’s is said. I cannot say that it has the best jeans because truthfully I hadn’t have much pairs of different brand jeans, but based on the price, it’s quality is worth it! I absolutely love Levi’s jeans because it’s affordable and lasting. I definitely recommend it, but most probably everyone would have at least a pair of this jeans.

However I am going to talk about the cutting more than the brand itself, hopefully giving you an idea of what cutting to buy when you were to get a Levi’s jeans. Maybe I would do a few different brands in the future for more understanding of the specific brand.

Levi’s come out with different numbers to indicate the cutting. Firstly, the basic one.

Lewis

Levi’s 501 – Original Fit.

Original fit is the most basic, nothing could go wrong cutting. It’s straight from the thigh down to the ankle. I think many adults would go for this cutting. However, I don’t recommend youngsters or young adult getting this cutting as it could be a little bit dull.

Lewis 505

Levi’s 505 – Regular Fit

Regular fit, almost the same as above is a simple straight cut jeans where doesn’t showcase much shape in the jeans.  If you are overweight or with beer belly could go for this cutting as it won’t go wrong rather than other cuttings.

Lewis 510

Levi’s 510 – Skinny Fit

I bet most people would say no after hearing the skinny fit word. It was initially my first reaction, but after dad got me a pair of it and after I tried it on, it has been one of my favourite jeans to wear of all time. It isn’t too skinny and it’s fabric is very comfortable.

Lewis 511

Levi’s 511 – Slim Fit

Another popular cutting which is this slim fit that I think suit most youngster and young adult as it isn’t too tight but it gives the shape of the leg while making you look slightly taller.

Photos are from Levi’s.

I personally would go for wither Levi’s 510 or 511 as I prefer slim or skinny rather than the regular cut, but the choice is yours when come to dressing up. Whether you put comfort, looks or cutting first, but it must suit your body type. Which one do you wear?
