The Right Swimwear Style for You

I am finally back. It took awhile, but honestly I was busy with many stuff in my life after I graduated from my degree. What matters most is I am back and with more post than before, at least regular ones. I shall kick out with something soft while I sort through some of my Outfit of the Day and Stuff I Bought post.

Summer is coming soon for most places and what’s the first thing that comes into mind? Beach, of course! Summer, sun and beach, it’s definitely important to remember to get the best swimwear shorts. I saw a few guides to getting the right one and this particular one interests me.

Article do not own by me but Gentleman’s Gazette

What Swimwear Style Is Right For You?

It’s separate into six categories: tall men (6′ or above), short men and then buff, thin or big build.

Tall & Buff

Are you 6′ or taller, with broad shoulders and chest, and do you like to workout with weights, then you fall into the tall & buff category meaning you can wear anything you like because chances are it will always look good on you. If you have a good tan, lighter colors like white or pastel tones look great, but bear in mind that white rarely stays like that for a long time. In case you like bolder patterns, think about a classic paisley, madras or gingham.

Tall & Buff men's swimwear

Tall & Thin

If you are 6′ or taller with a slender built, go for traditional board shorts. An 8″ inseam is enough for people around 6′, and taller men can increase it to 10″ as long as they end above the knee. While a fuller cut is good, avoid the baggy board shorts trend from the 1990′s. They have the unfortunate tendency to look too youthful or simply sloppy. If you are really tall, it will be difficult to find anything with a longer inseam. You definitely want to avoid vertical stripes, because these will give you the appearance of being taller and thinner than you already are. On the other hand, horizontal stripes may work for you. In any case, avoid skinny Speedo swim briefs because chances are it will make you look boyish.  In terms of color choice, your complexion should be a good guide: if you are pale, avoid extreme colors in terms of lightness and darkness, whereas men with a tan often look better with lighter or bright colors. A rich blue like in the picture (or green, red, etc. ) will work for anybody.

Tall & Thin swim shorts

Big & Tall

As a big & tall man, you want to look advantageous and long, dark, solids board shorts will do just that for you. If your thighs are not too strong, try to avoid shorts that are too baggy. If you prefer patterns, go for a micro pattern or vertical stripes.  Avoid swim trunks, Speedo briefs and thong style swimwear.

Big & Tall swimsuits

Short & Buff

The best style for shorter, buff men will be a trunk or boxer style because the shorter inseam makes  you look taller. I’d recommend avoiding suits with an inseam longer than 6″. At any cost, avoid board shorts because they make you visually even shorter and often overhang the knee, while vertical stripes will help you look taller.

Short & Buff swim trunks

Short & Thin

If you are short and slender opt for trunks, or slim board shorts with a shorter inseam. Avoid bold and large patterns, as they will overpower your small stature. Choose microprints, or low contrast stripes instead.

Short & Thin swim trunks

Short & Big

In case you are shorter and bigger, consider a pair of high-cut briefs that would give the illusion of longer legs. Below you can see the original model in khaki which was designed for the  Underwater Demolition Team in the forties and they are still used by the Navy Seals today. At just $18, you get a classic swim trunk that won’t break the bank.  You want to opt for a looser fit without an elastic waistband, because it will make you look bigger. If the swimsuit cuts into your stomach, better go with the next larger size. Dark solids colors will always work and often have a slimming effect, but dark vertical stripes are also good as long as they are not too bold.

Short & Big swimsuits for men

What Not to Wear

Regardless of your stature and build, if the goal is to look great at the beach, there are a few things to avoid that apply to everyone interested in a classic look. If possible, avoid large logo or brand symbols. I am sure you all have seen men in large Armani, Versace or Hugo Boss shorts or briefs but big branding tends to scream with a lack of self confidence, not to mention lack of personal style. So, don’t be a brand victim and choose a tasteful model that suits your physique and complexion rather than being the equivalent of an advertising billboard.

It’s up to you eventually. I really find this article useful, so go check them out. Let me know if you have any opinion about it as well.

Suspenders

Firstly, sorry I have been MIA, missing in action. I have actually been travelling very much, therefore the lack of post. I will still be travelling coming March, so bare with me for my lack of post, but I will promise to update whenever possible. In the meantime, follow my Instagram for more of my outfit of the day post.

Back into topic:

Suspenders are fabric or leather straps worn over the shoulders to hold up trousers. Straps may be elasticated, either entirely or only at attachment ends and most straps are of woven cloth forming an X or Y shape at the back. So now you know what suspenders are, the question is do you wear them?

I remember when suspenders were big in the past where it would be worn in many formal events with an overcoat over it, however what about the modern society now? I remember people would ask what century are you from when you wore suspenders out a few years back, but are they making a comeback? Big menswear clothing stores are selling suspenders more often including H&M, Zara, Topman and many more are starting to sell them over the years with many different and interesting designs than the normal plain color.

Celebrities are also starting to rock the suspenders look. One of the significant celebs that wear them often is Louis Tomlinson from One Direction. You can see from his performance to his casual wear, suspenders are worn. This definitely affects the way teen starts to dress, including me since he is loved by millions of girls around the world.

Louis Suspender

In this time of age, suspenders somehow are not the first choice in dressing for male as some may think it is overdress while others do not fancy the idea of it. However, people with the daring personality to wear it wear them in formal or even casual occasions. I think suspenders are interesting fashion accessories that males should utilize, but keep in mind not everything goes with it. I personally won’t wear it with T-shirts but wear it with long sleeves button down shirts, but that is my opinion. Style is challenging the current fashion and make it your own, people remember you for your style! Where is your stand point on suspenders?

One question though, I am deciding whether to change this blog and talk more about lifestyle. It’s like I will focus on a variety of topics including the current trends and fashion, but I will add categories including vacation, food and others. Is it a good idea? Or should I just stick with this current only focus on fashion and trends blog? Comment would be appreciated.

71st Annual Golden Globe Men’s Fashion

I hope it is not too late to talk about the Golden Globe as I just recently watched it the night before. I am a sucker for award show, it’s nice seeing my favourite celebrity get rewarded after the outstanding performance they gave in a film. Even though the male fashion can be kind of boring however once in awhile it’s nice to see someone who stood out.

I have been asked to wear formal for a past few events, so I know how hard it is to match formal wear! Will update it in a post soon.

A big roundup would be that coloured suit is the thing to go this award season gala. The top 3, Leonardo DiCaprio, Channing Tatum and Bradley Cooper wore simple black suits, white shirts and bowtie or tie. Which I think is simple yet elegant, however for us commoner without their good looks, we might end up looking like a waiter. Therefore my advice would be the cutting of the suits is so important!

Coloured suits are beautiful! I love how the other 3 celebs wore it beautifully. Seth Meyers on his navy blue suit, Usher in his very beautiful burgundy colour and Matthew McConaughey deep green suit. It looks great but to be honest, it is not cheap for a suit, however we cannot be wearing the same coloured suit to different events, therefore owning a variety of it will be costly. I definitely love to have the variety but it would be too expensive to afford well-fitted suit and different colours of them.

All in all I think Usher is my choice of best dressed.

I want to talk about Jared Leto as well. Congrats to him and all the other winners on winning. Leonardo, Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Adams, they were my favourites.

What does everyone think of Jared? I know he doesn’t looked like himself, or maybe it’s just me. I like what he wore especially his scarf. The amount of detail to his outfit was great.

He was rocking long hair and his scruffy facial hair and for me, I think he is a little too skinny for this look. I would love to see him shaved and short hair, but that’s my opinion. I still think he is gorgeous though and the weight he had to lose for his movie, Dallas Buyer Club was scary actually but it’s admirable. Just stating I like him short hair and shaved, that’s all.

Kiel James Patrick

Before I start my post, I want to apologize for my lack of post. Haven’t been posting for 2 weeks. 2 reasons though: 1) my degree is finishing in 3 weeks time, workload is unbearable. 2) my house wifi was down for 1 week.

Enough with my swallow excuses, let me make it up with this and upcoming posts. Give me 3 weeks time and when I finish my degree, I will post more regularly.

Kiel James Patrick.
Ever heard of the brand? For those who did not, me neither. I recently found out that this brand existed after a kind friend of mine got me a gift from this brand. I must say it was lovely. Shout out to them! (#shoutoutsunday)

Something similar to this. I looked it up on the web and found out about this brand. By the way the anchor bracelet above: Cape Spencer Approaches, price: $38.00.

“The inspiration for the Kiel James Patrick brand was brought on by years spent exploring vintage clothing stores, antique shops and friend’s attics in search of the age-old quality, style and construction once easily found in American made goods.” Quoted from Kiel James Patrick. Visit their home page to understand more. (here)

Kiel James Patrick focuses more on accessories. From bracelets, belts to ties and bow-ties. They even have shirts. Most accessories are unisex. I actually love the vintage style of their accessories. It is not something that we can find so easily. Most brands do not focus much detail on the accessories made therefore it is interesting that I found this brand.

A glance through their items for sale and if you are kind enough, my Christmas wishlist. Feel free to get them for me. =D

Lucky-Sailor

Lucky Sailor, price: $85.00.

Briggs-Capeside-Docks

Brigg’s Capeside Docks, price $88.00.

Huck Starboard, price $65.00.

Mixed-Signals

Mixed Signals, price: $75.00

The-Great-American-Legacy

The American Legacy, price: $38.00.

Basically that’s that. I am in love with the new bracelet my friend got it for me. Would love to get more, but no stores in what I stay. However looking through the price range of these stuff, I must say it’s a little bit pricey. It won’t be something I would spend to much on, but I guess once in a while might be okay. Let me know what you guys think! Cheers.

MR. PORTER.COM Global Style Campaign – Fall Edition

I know it doesn’t snow in Malaysia, but I love fall fashion so much! I believe it’s the time of the year when you can wear a jacket out, but it’s not too cold either. I am completely nuts about fall fashion. Definitely I took this opportunity to post about what I would wear for fall if I experienced it.

Talk a little bit of my own personal style if you haven’t already knew. My personal style varies though. I don’t stick to a specific style but I love to try on new stuff. Some days I like simple sophisticated style, some days I just love to test the limits. I do dress in styles that suit me as well, like my image. My style may not scream loudly for attention but it’s decent and hopefully when I walk in the streets, people do notice the details I wore.

Topman “Spray On Jeans” Campaign

Skinny jeans has been around over the decades, from rockers such as The Rolling Stones  and Sid Vicious. In this few years, skinny jeans started to come back maybe three years back. However Topman boasts their Spray On Jeans in over thirty styles and rinses. For this year’s fall fashion, Topman has came out with this spray on jeans which to be honest, is pushing the boundaries of men fashion.

I was walking pass Topman this afternoon and saw the campaign for spray on jeans by the store and it actually fascinates me. Skinny jeans are getting skinnier and skinnier every year and right at the moment I saw this, I thought why not blog about it. These spray on jeans looked like tights and for a male, I swear wearing something so tight is not comfortable.

Let me show you what I saw first:

800x1068xTOPMANDENIM_SHOT_02_0121.jpg.pagespeed.ic.cuOgyujCTn 800x1068xTOPMANDENIM_SHOT_06_0031.jpg.pagespeed.ic._PkaSbv9fL800x1068xTOPMANDENIM_SHOT_04_0124.jpg.pagespeed.ic.PA8YSrrnzX800x1068xTOPMANDENIM_SHOT_09_0001.jpg.pagespeed.ic.6sjpwY_EVp800x1068xTOPMANDENIM_SHOT_10_0013.jpg.pagespeed.ic.d5_HzQybBZ TOPMANDENIM_SHOT_01_0231-767x1024800x1074xTOPMANDENIM_SHOT_03_0023.jpg.pagespeed.ic.maeAsufWdBTOPMANDENIM_SHOT_07_0016-767x1024

I will not lie, the models looked great! I don’t believe every guy can wear skinny jeans that are so tight. You have to have a slim legs and need to be tall. This type of fashion most probably can only been seen in the Europe. For myself, I think I can wear them, but I am thinking whether to get them though, because it is really a very tight fit and I must say, tight jeans are not comfortable. Well, I guess I have to try one on to determine. What do you guys think?

A little preview of what is the Topman Spray On Jeans campaign is all about. Give me your comment on what you think. Cheers!

New Balance Fall 2013 Collection – Herschel Supply Co

Herschel Supply Co and New Balance present a second capsule collection, created over a shared heritage and goal of delivering high-quality, timeless goods. The theme of it is out in the woods where I think definitely catches the attention of mine. I never been a fan of New Balance, however Herschel is quite famous among my friends, therefore it’s quite interesting to see this joint venture.

newbalance-1 newbalance-2 newbalance-3 newbalance-7 newbalance-9

Personally I would go to a store and get these right now, however, there isn’t any Herschel outlet in Malaysia. One of the interesting thing is the Heritage NB backpack with a signature shoe pocket and custom paisley lining. Previously exclusive to the Novel duffel, the shoe pocket is ideal for storing New Balance styles separately inside the bag.

This interesting design cost $79.99. I would say it’s a little bit pricey, but if the quality is good, I would definitely invest in it. To me, shoes and bags are would the investment, because they follow you everywhere you go! What do you guys think?
