The Right Swimwear Style for You

I am finally back. It took awhile, but honestly I was busy with many stuff in my life after I graduated from my degree. What matters most is I am back and with more post than before, at least regular ones. I shall kick out with something soft while I sort through some of my Outfit of the Day and Stuff I Bought post.

Summer is coming soon for most places and what’s the first thing that comes into mind? Beach, of course! Summer, sun and beach, it’s definitely important to remember to get the best swimwear shorts. I saw a few guides to getting the right one and this particular one interests me.

What Swimwear Style Is Right For You?

It’s separate into six categories: tall men (6′ or above), short men and then buff, thin or big build.

Tall & Buff

Are you 6′ or taller, with broad shoulders and chest, and do you like to workout with weights, then you fall into the tall & buff category meaning you can wear anything you like because chances are it will always look good on you. If you have a good tan, lighter colors like white or pastel tones look great, but bear in mind that white rarely stays like that for a long time. In case you like bolder patterns, think about a classic paisley, madras or gingham.

Tall & Thin

If you are 6′ or taller with a slender built, go for traditional board shorts. An 8″ inseam is enough for people around 6′, and taller men can increase it to 10″ as long as they end above the knee. While a fuller cut is good, avoid the baggy board shorts trend from the 1990′s. They have the unfortunate tendency to look too youthful or simply sloppy. If you are really tall, it will be difficult to find anything with a longer inseam. You definitely want to avoid vertical stripes, because these will give you the appearance of being taller and thinner than you already are. On the other hand, horizontal stripes may work for you. In any case, avoid skinny Speedo swim briefs because chances are it will make you look boyish.  In terms of color choice, your complexion should be a good guide: if you are pale, avoid extreme colors in terms of lightness and darkness, whereas men with a tan often look better with lighter or bright colors. A rich blue like in the picture (or green, red, etc. ) will work for anybody.

Tall & Thin swim shorts

Big & Tall

As a big & tall man, you want to look advantageous and long, dark, solids board shorts will do just that for you. If your thighs are not too strong, try to avoid shorts that are too baggy. If you prefer patterns, go for a micro pattern or vertical stripes.  Avoid swim trunks, Speedo briefs and thong style swimwear.

Big & Tall swimsuits

Short & Buff

The best style for shorter, buff men will be a trunk or boxer style because the shorter inseam makes  you look taller. I’d recommend avoiding suits with an inseam longer than 6″. At any cost, avoid board shorts because they make you visually even shorter and often overhang the knee, while vertical stripes will help you look taller.

Short & Buff swim trunks

Short & Thin

If you are short and slender opt for trunks, or slim board shorts with a shorter inseam. Avoid bold and large patterns, as they will overpower your small stature. Choose microprints, or low contrast stripes instead.

Short & Thin swim trunks

Short & Big

In case you are shorter and bigger, consider a pair of high-cut briefs that would give the illusion of longer legs. Below you can see the original model in khaki which was designed for the  Underwater Demolition Team in the forties and they are still used by the Navy Seals today. At just $18, you get a classic swim trunk that won’t break the bank.  You want to opt for a looser fit without an elastic waistband, because it will make you look bigger. If the swimsuit cuts into your stomach, better go with the next larger size. Dark solids colors will always work and often have a slimming effect, but dark vertical stripes are also good as long as they are not too bold.

What Not to Wear

Regardless of your stature and build, if the goal is to look great at the beach, there are a few things to avoid that apply to everyone interested in a classic look. If possible, avoid large logo or brand symbols. I am sure you all have seen men in large Armani, Versace or Hugo Boss shorts or briefs but big branding tends to scream with a lack of self confidence, not to mention lack of personal style. So, don’t be a brand victim and choose a tasteful model that suits your physique and complexion rather than being the equivalent of an advertising billboard.

Longchamp – A Brief Introduction to it’s Men’s Bag.

It took me awhile to find an interesting post to write about for a lazy Sunday night. I came across Longchamp website and found out that there were actually Men’s bag. It was very surprising for me, because whenever I thought of Longchamp, I thought of bags that are like the picture below.

Therefore, being the fashion addict that I am, I went to it’s website and scout out all the bag that I wish to have, but no money to afford. Longchamp’s design is very simple, nothing too complicated, however sometimes simplicity is attractive as well.

Longchamp 3D Men’s Collection

“Combining a modern sensibility with a love of symmetry, Longchamp’s 3D collection subverts traditional barren minimalism with graphic design: “straight-cut leather, lines in relief for a 3D feel and geometric eyelets”. The collection is designed for the young professional, the ‘urban consumer’ who covets style and a ‘controlled, casual look’.” Fashionbeans.

£620, available in black, cognac and earth

£595, available in black, cognac and earth

Something a little pricey from my perspective, but are practical and functional bags.

Safari-Sur-Seine Men’s Collection

This collection however looks more interesting to myself and is something I would use more often.

They called this the hobo bag.

I like the last one, it is very suitable for a casual/semi-formal event at the same time looking fashionable. Get me one? =D

Longchamp do not have much men’s collection, I don’t see much advertisement and stores bringing in Longchamp Men’s Collection, therefore I believe they are fairly new to men’s collection, so we have to see what is installed in the future Longchamp Men’s Collection. At least now I know what to get if I ever will be in Paris. What do you guys think of their collection?

What to know about men eyebrow grooming?

I came across a topic this week which I find confused. Not sure about you guys out there, but there’s always been this question that, should men groom their eyebrows?

Like every other person, when there’s a question, I often search the internet for info and so here is my conclusion to what I think of this topic as well as what you can do. In this modern day society, looking pleasant has become a role both gender plays. Guys are more focus on fashion, style and appearance much more compared to the olden days, therefore grooming is one of them. I do think grooming your eyebrows is a essential modern men lifestyle where there shouldn’t be a shame of doing it as a men.

Definitely, grooming eyebrows need a knowledge and we don’t want any mistakes that may affect your appearance in any way. Eyebrows can be thread, trim or even shave (though I am sure no one’s gonna shave them). Celebrities groom them all the time, don’t tell me you never look at Zac Efron’s eyebrow and be like “I want them!”

What I came across is men do not need to do much for their eyebrows. Just regular tweezing would be fine. The question is how do we do that?

Trim away stray hairs around your eyebrow.

Look at the natural curve that god gave you for your eyebrows, my first rule is to never change the arch or shape of it! Men want to groom their eyebrow of stray hairs, not changing the whole arch, because it may turn out feminine. Besides, the best is that you groom your eyebrow without getting notice for grooming it, sounds weird, but it’s the truth. So basically, you trim away stray hairs around your eyebrow that is not from the arch, mostly from the bottom of the eyebrow and the top outside of the eyebrow.

Where the eyebrow should start.

Some men may have uni brow which apparently isn’t attractive but a distraction to many. Therefore, I would suggest trim it with a reference of the picture above.

What to use for grooming of eyebrows?

A simple tweezers should be fine which you can get from your local pharmacy. Nothing too pricey with an angle tip should be fine. At first, it will be very painful for grooming, but you will get used to it.

What do you guys think of men eyebrow grooming? Do you think it’s a must for a guy? Or it doesn’t affect much? Would like to know what everyone thinks!

Versace Spring/Summer & Fall 2013

It’s fashion news Monday (or Tuesday) depends on which time zone you are in. I wanted to make a variety of post and every week, there would be a post on fashion news. Guess that might be able to kick away your Monday blues slightly a little by looking at wonderful style and maybe would make you to strive harder in the week to achieve in owning styles like this. Anyhow for me, I love having a good look at some runway fashion even though I couldn’t afford them, but maybe it’s a reminder of what I want to strive for in life.

One of my favourite brands is Versace! I don’t merely like it because of it’s distinctive Italian name or the fact it cause so much to get a shoes of that brand, but I think Versace creates very unique style that stands out among different brands. It’s noticeable and memorable, but not always wearable in public and everyday life, but it’s definitely a brand I always look into it.

Versace Spring/Summer 2013 collection was based on the concept of “Pugilist.” That’s the strong man whom Donatella Versace saw as the pillar of her latest men’s collection. In the year of The Hunger Games, a gladiatorial fight for survival is a timely reference and, beforehand, Donatella was laudably vocal about the need for the youth of today to be gladiators on behalf of their rights. Therefore the style was more of a gladiator inspired style.

But let’s be honest, who wears the above for our daily life? It’s not exactly what we would be wearing maybe to the exception of heading to the beach. However the suits below are something I picture myself or anyone for the matter wearing to work etc.

I absolutely love the suit above because of it’s unique quality and would totally love to get one of them. The full fashion show can be view here. (link)

The fashion industry is always in a fast forward mode, before Summer is here, they are out with the Fall 2013 collection. I guess that’s how the fashion industry works. Since I didn’t find much clothes to talk about, so I shall just include the Fall 2013 collection. I absolutely love them! With all the suits and it’s just amazing!

“Masculinity is not something given to you, but something you gain.” With that quote as the design inspiration,  she showed jackets with sleeves pushed up, or baggy leather pants snapped at the ankle, or a motocross outfit outlined in gold zippers. Donatella was challenging the borders of taste. I must say it is absolutely gorgeous! Have a look for yourself!

Ermengildo Zegna 2013 Spring Collection

In conjunction with the most recent Ermenegildo Zegna 50th Anniversary Wool Awards, I would like to talk about Ermenegildo Zegna collections. Ermenegildo Zegna is one of my favourite brands (part of it maybe it’s because the name is so authentic), even though I do not own any items from there, but I like going through news and blogs about their latest collection. I find Ermenegildo Zegna collections are sophisticated and elegant. It makes the model or person wears it feels like a class above with the fine details on the clothing.

Ermenegildo Zegna spring collection 2013 brings elegant to the runway with silk as one of the main materials on the clothings. “The cashmere of Summer” Anna Zegna, granddaughter of the original Ermenegildo, called it. Silk showed up in every look: mixed into perforated knits, shining in shantung suiting, wafting in shirts printed with tropical banana or mango leaves.

Below are some of the interesting looks that caught my eyes while scrolling through Ermenegildo Zegna spring collection 2013.

The detail of the shirt and pants shows a sophistication. I especially love the bag the model is carrying. For me, bags like these are a must have to the modern day male.

Ermenegildo Zegna added color suits and pants to their collection and made it looked formal and stylish altogether had me fascinated with their spring collection 2013. What do you think of Ermenegildo Zegna spring collection 2013? I can’t wait for that day I earn enough money to afford myself an Ermenegildo Zegna suit!
